Graduationg Thoughts

Yesterday afternoon was my graduation. It was boring as hell, and not as dramatic compared to HS graduation. I am glad that all my hardwork has paid off and I'm a step closer to my goal.

We were all smiles during our ceremony, but no one ever opened up and asked, "what happens next?"

We will soon be part of the thousands of nursing graduates who are unemployed or underemployed. This is the reality that people seem to ignore for their fantasy that someday they'll make it big abroad outweighs the pull of the fact that it's a tough, tough competition out there.

I am unsure of what happens after I receive my nursing license. Would I go abroad or stay in the Phil to endure minimum wage income? I still don't know.

There are a lot of Questions I can only answer in time, when they're already right in front of me.

Thank You, God!

There's no other appropriate thing to do, but give thanks to God for all the blessings he has given me. So far, he has helped me through a lot of stress, which almost left me with no single strand of optimism.

Everything in my life has been going pretty well. There had been discreet sacrifices that needed to happen in order for me to get to where I am now; however, those things don't matter. What I have now, I think, is better than what I had before.

My limitations are set, but with your guidance, God, it seems there's no mountain too high to overcome. Limitations are only hindrances to what lie ahead of me. You have, once again, surprised me with what I have accomplished. It wasn't even part of my plan. It was just a wish. Yes, I wanted it, but never did it cross my mind that it would become a reality.

I don't go to Church. I don't kneel on the aisle and creep towards the altar, but I just believe in you. And I guess that's the only thing that you wanted -- for me to put all my trust in you.

I still don't know what your plans are for me, but whatever they are, for sure, they're going to be great.

I love you, God. Thank you.

jack of all trades, but master of nothing -> ouch!

That is one harsh realization i had when i was playing "The Sims 3" on my ipod touch.

There was this part of the sim creation process where I was asked what kind of personality I would like my sim to have. I immediately chose jack of all trades because that's sooo ME! I can do almost everything, and I have always prided myself of that personal trait... until now.

After reading the description below "Jack of all trades," I was taken aback. Truth really hurts! Yes, I can do everything, but I'm no expert at anything. Ask me to sing, dance, act, declaim, write, take photographs, do well in school, be techie, bake, et cetera, I can do them all. But just being able to all those things is NOT enough. Maybe it's one of the reasons why I feel so incomplete, and that I lack purpose.

People feel contented and happy whenever they do the thing that they truly love, like Tiger Woods with playing golf, Kathy Griffin, making inappropriate jokes, or Beyonce, performing on stage.

But that's where another problem arises. I love doing all those things. I would have no psychological balance if I compromise one of those talents and focus on just one. This is harder than I thought it already is.

So that's my goal now - to finally have a purpose in this world. How would I do that? I don't know. Haha. But for now, I have to graduate nursing first, then worry about those freaking things after.

No Regrets My Ass

As much as I want to imbibe the phrase, "No regrets," I just can't. There are just certain things in the past that I wish I could have done or have done in a different way.

But when I put my thoughts into it, I realize that there's no way I could have known that I would regret NOW what I have done in the past.

For example, taking up a degree in bachelor of nursing. I've wanted to be a nurse since, I think, kinder A. I even remember my classmates laughing at me because back then nursing is for girls. Haha. So what's the problem? Well now, I think it's really not for me. Academics, no problem with that, but I just think I would NOT be happy with this kind of career in the long run.

My original plan was to finish nursing and work for at least 5 years to save enough money for taking up culinary arts. I'm still trying to stick up to the plan, but I'm at the point where my anxiety's really because of the upcoming exams I have to take and I don't really have the confidence if I could survive them all. I know I sound like a BIG, BIG QUITTER, but I think this is just the way how I cope up with all this stress (and perhaps eating a lot, too).

I actually think this is one of the reasons why most of the time I'm agitated whenever my mom gives me her "I expect you to be on top" dialogues. Haha. I'm trying to focus to pass the exam, and yet here's the additional pressure that is not helping at all to make me overcome this crap. Weeh.

I really, really hope I could just shrug off these feelings and focus more on studying. I promise I will try my best to my stick to my original plan! Nursing today, culinary arts tomorrow! haha. October 11, I would be graduating. November 29 & 30, I would be taking the Nursing Licensure Exam! Haha. I can do this!

Internal Conflict

Days and nights have passed by, and it has drawn closer and closer. It can't be stopped, nor slowed. There's no escape.

It's like standing in an arena full of blood-thirsty audience, waiting for the hungry lion to devour me whole.

A mighty warrior, I have become, with a great sword in hand and a mighty shield on the other. I know how to win this battle, for years of training in swordsmanship has prepared me for this day.

As the lion circles around me, picturing me as his next meal, I was running through tactics and strategies how to kill my predator. I am a man and the thing that stands before me is just an animal. I will win.

The mighty cat bent down, clawing its nails down to the ground as if preparing to attack. It is time. There's no turning back.

The sun's rays got to my eyes. I blinked, and by the time I opened my eyes I was covered by the shadow of the lion above me. I could have lifted my sword and pierced the animal through his guts; I could have bent down and chugged him with my shield... but I froze.

Lady Gaga Live in Manila

Lady Gaga is taking over the world one sequins at a time! And now she's finally coming to the Philippines. I'm so excited!

I've been checking Ticketnet.com.ph every now and then for updates regarding Lady Gaga's concert, but it was until this week when they finally posted event info on their website.

So let's cut the crap and proceed with what you all want to know about the concert!

EVENT DATE/TIME: August 11, 2009 (TUESDAY) at 8:00 PM
VENUE: Araneta Coliseum
SEAT AND PRICE:
You can reserve your tickets as early as now, just visit ticketnet.com.ph by clicking this link. I'm very sad that until now there's no news if there would be an "early-bird" promo for the concert, but I will update you if there have been any changes.

Weeh. Unfortunately, I can only afford a seat at Upper Box B. Huhu. Unless someone would be kind enough to give (not lend) me some money so I could afford VIP tickets. I promise you, I would do anything you ask me to! Hahaha.

So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Episode 8 (Performance Night)

So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Episode 8 was really something to look forward to since having seen the exquisite standards that the dancers have set in their last week's performances. I was expecting great and possible "talk of the town" dances, and that's what I got this episode!

So let us now start with my TOP FAVORITE performances of the night.

TOP 3 Performances:
1 - On top of my list was the routine performed by Melissa and Ade, which was choreographed by Sonya Tayeh.

It was such a brilliant choreography that really showcased the two dancers' talents - Ade on contemporary and Melissa on ballet. Ade's strength was special. He was stable and very supportive of her partner. And with Melissa... she was just fabulous. She looked young for her age. Well, to sum it all up, these two are a force to reckon with in this competition.

2 - Second place goes to Kayla and Max with a pop jazz routine choreographed by Brian Friedman.

I really loved the story behind the dance. Max plays a man who would dace for the princess, which, in this case, is Kayla. He, however, had an intention of throwing her down from her throne, which he was successful in doing at the end. Haha. Oh and about Kayla... she has been very consistent on her performances and, indeed, very, very beautiful!

3 - Last on the TOP list are Janette and Brandon with a disco routine choreographed by Doriana Sanchez.

This was such a tiring routine to watch! The song was so fast, my eyes couldn't even keep up with the dance. In their practices, Janette seemed to be struggling with the routine, but at the performance night, even if she almost tripped over, she was able to nail it! And now with Brandon... he was finally able to get some loving from Lil C, who, in the past, failed to be impressed with his dancing.

And now let's go to my SAFE LIST. The number one stop goes to Evan and Randi with a jive routine choreographed by Louis van Amstel.
I think their performance was just safe because I saw nothing quite memorable about their performance. It was just OKAY. That's it.

Second on the SAFE LIST are Jonathan and my fellow Filipino, Karla with their contemporary routine by Stacey Tookey.
They came second because the performance was really great! I was thinking of including them on my TOP LIST; however, they were not able to match the energy level and skill that my TOP 3 had. Also, I think Stacey from Canada did a great job for these two guys. She was able to ump the level for these two guys who were on the bottom 3 last week. I will be looking forward to her choreography. She's third from all my favorite choreographers, with Mia Michaels and Wade Robson on first and second, respectively.

I hate doing this, but if there are TOP 3 and SAFE LIST, there's also a BOTTOM 3 LIST. On first and second of the list are Shane Sparks' hip hop routines, which made it a very tough night for him. It was obvious the judges were disappointed, but they tried to sugarcoat it to avoid offending him.
BOTTOM LIST:
1 - Caitlin and Jason - Their performance was really dry and boring! Nothing more I could say about that.
2 - Ashley and Kupono - The effort was there, but they lacked synchronization because Kupono was struggling with the routine. Ashley, on the other hand, was so beautiful to watch.
3 - Asuka and Vitolio with a Louis van Amstel waltz routine. It supposed to be a dramatic performance, but they were not able to deliver it. I found it boring, and the dancers lacked chemistry.
4 - Jeanine and Phillip who performed a tango routine by Tony Meredith. They were my number one top favorite dancers last week, but they disappointed me this week. I really love how unique Phillip is in his genre of dance, but he should try harder for the other routines because we expect him to suck in other genre of dance, and that's what he just showed us.

Morphthing.com

I found Morphthing.com through a friend of mine when I saw a baby photo on her Facebook account. I thought it was of a real person, but it was a result of morphing two photos into one. You could combine your face with any celebrity in their gallery or you can upload one yourself. But just make sure the photos are face on (front of the face, not side view) to get better results. Also, you could combine two photos and determine what your children would look like.

Of course, I tried it myself and got a few laughs with the results.

My first try was morphing my face with Jennifer Lopez, and I ended up having a drag queen version of J-Lo. Bwahaha.
And this is what my child with Angelina Jolie would look like. Doesn't she look like a child from Middle East? Beautiful.
Finally, my child with my ex, Drew. Hehe. It's such an adorable boy, just like Maddox of Angelina.
Well, I had fun. Try it yourself. Hehe.

My Homemade Yeast-Free Pizza

We thought it was Fathers' Day yesterday, so my mom asked to cook some spaghetti with meatballs as celebration. My sister and I got confused because of TV adverts that were saying it's this Sunday (June 14). Anyhoo, since there were a lot of the spag left, I brought some to school today for my classmates. They loved it. Not even a single strand of pasta was left.

It makes me happy when people pig out on my cooking. Hehe. It relaxes me. I don't know.

So I told them that I'd be bringing something else tomorrow, perhaps a cake or something. Kaira (my friend) and I went to the supermarket. I planned of making an oatmeal chocolate bar, so I grabbed a bar of cooking chocolate. But then I realized I want pizza, so into the tomato sauce section we went. I also got some beef bits for the toppings.

I've baked pizza before but it was years ago, so I kind of forgot how. Thanks to this tutorial I found on YouTube, I was able to bake a pizza crust.

Then for the toppings, I just combined the beef bits, pineapple chunks, mozzarella cheese, onions, and my special tomato sauce mix. Hehe. Then into the oven it went for 20-25 minutes at 425 Fahrenheit.

It turned out really nice. I made one which is thin crust and another that is stuffed crust (cheese). I forgot to take photos of the stuffed crust though.
Yummy! Hehe. Let's just see how much my classmates would drool over this pizza.

Happy Fathers' Day, Tatay!

My family is famous for our inevitable pride. We just feel uncomfortable conveying our emotions.
We're not the typical family that says "I love you" to each other everyday. But at those rare occasions that we do say it, it comes deep from our hearts. Charot! Haha

Today is father's day. It's well expected that I have not greeted my dad yet. I'm just too shy. Hehe. Well, my sister, on the other hand, is somewhat in the mood for mushy things, so she came up with an idea of creating a Fathers' Day scrapbook for our dad. I can do something like it as well, but I'm too busy updating my iPod. Hehe.
So... my sister is in Cebu and we're here in Manila, so she can't give it to our dad personally. My idea was, I would download it into my PSP slim, display it on our TV via A/V cable, and add a bit of father's day music to it (Song: Friends of St. John - Happy Father's Day). Hehe!

It worked. It was a bit dramatic, until my mom pulled down my pants. I wasn't wearing any underpants! OMG! So in the video you would hear me saying, "Bastos," which means pervert, indecent in english at my mom. Hehe.

Well, I thought my sister would be the only one who'd be all too mushy about this day, but I was wrong. My dad was in the mood to reciprocate emotions today! Haha. Look at these photos:
He kept some of the letters we gave him when we were still young. Aaaaw. I was really touched. And the last one's really funny. That's my hand writing, and I thought I was really good at cutting out hearts when I was a kid. I was wrong. I sucked. Haha. That looks like an apple!

That's it. He may not be the perfect dad, but he's enough of a father for me. I LOVE YOU!!

(OMG! I'm really crying. Haha.)

So You Think You Can Dance Season 5: Episode 6 & 7 Recap (W/ Videos)

The judges had been so rough that I thought no one would ever pass the high standards that they have set. It even reached the point where I thought it's impossible to please these judges! But I have to commend them for everything that they have done because just look at the top 20 dancers that they've chosen for us! They were ridiculously fabulous dancers!

Episode 6: Ooh the very first performance night. My favorite dance was Phillip's and Jeanine's hip-hop routine choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo. They were so great that they have set a very high standard to match for the other dancers.

Jeanine & Phillip: Hip-Hop
Choreographers: Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo

The one that came second was the jazz routine choreographed by the genius Wade Robson for Ashley and Kupuno. They crash-test dummies, one is new and the other one's kinda old and rickety. It was a routine that would be a talk of the town, I tell you!

Ashley & Kupuno: Jazz
Choreographer: Wade Robson

Episode 7: They were all good dancers, but the judges had no choice but to dismiss one girl and one girl from the competition. Six contestants had to battle it out in their solo routines to secure their spot to go on to next week's episode. They were Jonathan Platero and Karla Garcia, Asuka Kondoh and Vitolio Jeune, and Tony Bellissimo and Paris Torres. I did expect that these two people would end up being cut off because, Tony, for one, wasn't that a good dancer. Two things that brought him to the top 20 was his good looks and interesting personality.
Paris, on the other hand, was a very strong dancer, but I think she lacks charisma. When they were doing their introduction dance routines at the start of the show, she got a very feeble applause from the audience. It was kinda awkward. Plus, forgive me for saying this, but she's got such a long chin. It's scary.I'm so excited for next week's episode! I'm really rooting for Phillip and Kayla! Haha.

Lady Gaga - Paparazzi!! NEW VIDEO!!

I just love the Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi" video! Actually, it's one of my favorite songs in her album "The Fame." I LOVE her short hair as well! I hoped she kept the hair that got cut off 'cause I want to shove it into Christina Aguilera's mouth for saying she doesn't even know her and she's not copying her! Haha. I'm such a hater.

Here's the video.

I remember the day when I first saw Lady Gaga. She was the guest performer in the Miss Universe Pageant of 2008 and sang "Just Dance." Now, I'm such a big fan! Haha.

We (Filipinos) are looking forward to your concert here in the Philippines. We won't fail you! Haha.

Good Times Manila: a reliable source of laughs

Reading the newspaper bores me to death. I am dealing with a lot of stress to begin with, and I don't want the economic crisis, political corruption, and showbiz drama to make my day even worse!

But one day, I came across Good Times Manila, somewhat similar to an online newspaper. The title says, "Mike Enriquez inhales a live tarsier." That can't be true. I'm not stupid. Haha.

So I got to read some of the other stories in their website, and I was impressed with all the traffic that the site is getting. One article, on average, has over 100 comments on it. To top it all off, the site does NOT have any advertisements.

I'm so hooked, I check the site almost everyday. Hehe. Try it yourself, but don't be stupid to even believe what they write.

Gossip Girl Spin-off: Not Happening!

Early this year, there had been news that there would be a "Gossip Girl" spin-off, airing around September. It was believed that it would all be about Jenny Humphrey's life as she enters college, and that was because of the release of the spin-off novel that was released entitled, "The It Girl."

People were excited about it because Jenny has become a really interesting character in "Gossip Girl," especially when she started making clothes for Eleanor Waldorf. I, too, think that would be a great idea of a spin-off.

Now, if you've watched the latest episode (Season 2 Episode 24), it featured a flashback of Lily van der Woodsen's wild teenage life. It would give you another idea that perhaps the spin-off due later this year would be about Lily. The taste of the 80's vibe of the spin-off was interesting, but obviously it would not get that much attention.
The young Lily Rhodes (Her maiden name) was played by Brittany Snow. I don't really like her. She wasn't playing Lily convincingly. She lacks the aura of eliteness that Kelly Rutherford (who plays the older Lily van der Woodsen) has. But that's just my opinion.
Back to the spin-off issue, according to reports, it would no longer push through. It's because the show's rating is slowly sloughing down. However, this issue still has to be deliberated by the top execs. We'll just see in a couple of months how this thing would go.

Well, if you ask me, I'd love to see a spin-off about Lily van der Woodsen... the older Lily. I really love her tandem with Rufus Humphrey. Seriously, I'm always looking forward to their love story. Before I was still deciding whether to root for Serena:Dan or Rufus:Lily. Now, I've finally made up my mind. I want Rufus and Lily! Let them get married.
Here's the idea for the spin-off: "Gossip Girl" would end with Rufus finally proposing to Lily! Then the actual marriage would happen in the spin-off... but it wouldn't happen yet. As they prepare for their marriage, they would encounter a lot of issues, like they always do in GG. There would be also episodes where they would have flashbacks on why Lily has become like her mother or something, and Rufus quitting being in a band and having to start his own family.

My idea sucks, but you get the point. I'm not a writer and I don't want to give all of my ideas, the writers might steal them. Haha!

Gossip Girl: Serena's Wardrobe Sabotage

I love Blake Lively, (who plays Serena van der Woodsen in "Gossip Girl") but I'm not loving the outfit she has on in their latest episode (Season 2 Episode 24).
If I were standing in her place, I would think I've been sabotaged by Blair or the other bitches in the show. Her dress DOES NOT work right on her body. The dress reminds me of some grandmother trying to look young, breasts hanging down to the navel. Blake's boobs just looked sagged, and all those draping effect of the dress made it worse. Her boobs looks like their down to her waist.

Blair, on the other hand, is looking so fab!! I love her prom gown. Maybe this is one of the reasons why Serena was wearing such a lame dress - to give the spotlight to Blair. Well, if that's their plan, then it really worked!
I still love you, Blake Lively. You're so beautiful. Hehe. XOXO

Happy International Nurses Day

May 12, 2009 (Tuesday) - we are celebrating the International Nurses' Day (IND), which also happens to be Florence Nightingale's birthday, the internationally recognized founder of modern nursing. This year's theme is "Delivering Quality, Serving Communities: Nurses Leading Care Innovations."

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has been celebrating this event since 1965. As part of the celebration, the ICN gives out the International Nurses' Day Kit, which contains educational and public information materials that could be used by nurses all over the world.

We are all aware that nurses play an important role in our healthcare system, and the IND was initiated to acknowledge all the hardwork and dedication that nurses all over the world that made this system more effective.

For all the Filipino nurses here and abroad, this event is very important because it shows that their compassion for their work are being recognized, and there's nothing that can be more dignifying than that.

So to all the Filipino nurses, even nurses all over the world, and nursing students, HAPPY INTERNATIONAL NURSES' DAY and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE!!

P.S.
For more information about the International Nurses' Day and IND Kit go to www.icn.ch

I Miss Going To The Beach

It has been 4 months since I last walked on a sandy beach, and I miss it.

When I get tired of life, I just close my eyes and imagine myself sitting by the beach, listening to some sweet music, drinking mango shake, and looking at the beautiful sunset. Is there a job that has these as job description? If there is, then I'm wasting my life, taking up this nursing course. Hehe.

Well, here are some photos that I took myself. I look at these when I'm sad, and then I'm okay. They also serve as a reminder that I can be a good photographer. Haha.

This photo was taken at Bohol Bee Farm at Bohol, Philippines.

This was supposed to be a stolen shot, but I guess he saw me. It was a nice photo nonetheless.

A friend took this photo of me while balancing a coconut on my head. Haha. Talk about hidden talents. It was my first time to do that, mind you. :D

There were kids lurking around while we were talking our photos, so we took the big opportunity of having some unpaid extras! Haha. And they were quite good, righ? Just annoying though. I wanted a high-fashion shoot, but they ruined it all with their goofy antics! Hehe.

I promise that this year would not end without having a fun, fun beach vacation. I'm thinking of Boracay or Puerto Prinsesa. Hmmm. I can't decide... after all, I barely have the money to afford another vacation! Hehe. Schooling comes first (says Mom).

Global Warming Fashion Sunglasses

Don't these sunglasses desperately shout GLOBAL WARMING?!

It's as if the extreme heat of the sun caused the sunglasses' plastic to melt. That is so unique!

I love these sunglasses. They look funny... but fashionable. If you love attention or just want to make people laugh, then get one of these. But I bet after a few days you'll get tired and annoyed of the melted plastic hanging on the sides. I think these sunglasses are obviously leaning towards fashion or humor than to convenience. You decide. I still love them though.

The sunglasses were made by Anna Ter Haar for Klavers van Engelen's fall/winter 2008-2009 collection featured on the Milan fashion week. Click on the links I've provided above for more photos and information about the creator and the designer who used the glasses on her fashion show.

Maintaining my ideal body weight has been my problem as far as I can remember. I just can't develop the discipline to control my eating habits. One day I can say I've reached my normal weight, but after a few months, I'd gain it all back -- back to zero.

Today, I've learned something really interesting from an accidental experiment that happened out of boredom.

Here's the story:

I've got two dogs - Stacie, a Labrador that looks like Andre, the sea lion and Xylo, an ordinary dog that my friend gave me.

This is Stacie, the sea lion. (Haha)

And Xylo, the Albino dog.

Well, this afternoon, I thought of playing with them, and by that I mean grabbing a bag of bread, break it into several pieces, throw it at the dogs, and watch them catch it with their mouths. It's so funny how talented those dogs are when it comes to food, especially Stacie.

Out of my experiments, I've arrived to a conclusion that my dogs represent two types of people in the world - the skinny (Xylo) and the fat (Stacie).

Aside from being really fat, Stacie gets all excited with everything that has something to do with food, like the sound of spoons and fork hitting the plate. Also, when I throw food at her, she doesn't chew it even once. She just swallows it all up. (Damn, glutton!) And lastly, when she see someone eating, she'll get jealous and would want to eat as well.

That's me. I'm sooo Stacie. I've got to be more like Xylo.

Xylo, on the other hand, is health conscious, I think. He's really skinny and when I throw food at him, he takes time to chew it, or sometimes he even keeps it aside for a while and just eats it later because he's not hungry. He doesn't get jealous when I feed Stacie. And lastly, he drinks a lot of water.

That's what we should all be if we want to lose weight. We should not think that food is everything. We should have discipline and proper eating habits, just like Xylo.

Let's all make Xylo our inspiration to become slim. If an ordinary dog can do it, so can we. We're humans. Hehe.

So tell me, are you Stacie or Xylo?
